I’m not sure after the first season of “Slow Horses” that I would have bet it A) getting better each season, and B) making it to Season 4.

That latter achievement is increasingly rare, even if an argument could be made that “Slow Horses” should have more episodes and it likes to combine and cut up already shot seasons. Four seasons of anything is rare on the streaming era, at least for shows that I want to see, and sometimes when you get to that mark — I’m looking at you, “The Bear” — you’re less impressed on the return.

So I’m excited for S4 of “Slow Horses” to drop tomorrow on AppleTV+, as it’s become a quality mainstay that has grown every character into “people” viewers are engaged with, concerned about and otherwise glued to the story to find out their fates or, you know, just how their personal tics increase.

If there’s a show that goes down smoother than “Slow Horses” I can’t think of it off the top of my head.

On the other hand, I can think of some recently hyped newbies that have left me at a remove. It’s rare when I watch one episode of an anticipated series and come away thinking, “Meh, I’ll check back in a couple of weeks.”

Come join me and peruse the vault on lots of TV and film and culture related columns. $6 a month or, a better deal, $50 for a year.
