Deep Dive: Hulu. Vol. 2.
"The Split," "Rivals," "Mid-Century Modern," "Uncle Samsik" and how Vol. 1 made it hard to add a lot of new shows.
Deep Dive is a spoiler-free feature that explores both hidden, often un-promoted (and thus unknown) gems as well as must-watch quality series in the zeitgeist (or those that should be) on different steaming platforms.
Going on a Deep Dive has a number of grand objectives but the primary one is continuously finding worthwhile series on the platforms you subscribe to. One of the issues I face, however, is that it’s one thing for me to find 10 or so excellent series for you to watch and then it’s quite another for you to sample/watch them all before — ta-da — another Deep Dive arrives.
Conversely, I also understand that you might not like any of the previous series I’ve dug up.
Not knowing which is true for you or the majority of readers is a built in blind spot, which means that I just need to keep looking for excellent content regardless, otherwise this feature is kind of a bust, right?
So, off I went, deep into the vault of Hulu yet again and — perhaps this is not the shocker I’m anticipating it might be — I found myself drawn back more urgently to the series in Vol. 1.
Specifically, I’m really loving “Culprits,” and so I’m savoring each of those episodes before they run out. And when I just need some action amid a travelogue, I opt for “Paris Has Fallen.”
I’m also weirdly (and maybe warily?) drawn to the offbeat nature of “Hyper Knife.”
So, as I dug into the next tranche, the bar was decently high. Here’s what I came away with:
