Depending on your Netflix algorithm and whether you actually pay attention to the comings and going of countless TV series, there’s a good chance the early January premiere on Netflix of comedy/drama/action series “The Brothers Sun,” starring the legendary Michelle Yeoh, was not a box of fireworks in your house.
I can’t say there was much word of mouth or buzz about this series that snared my attention, but it looked like the kind of light and fun fare with action pyrotechnics that is currently fueling most of the attention in my life, so I decided to put it to the Two Episode Test.
An interesting thing happened in those two hours, as writers and co-creators Byron Wu and Brad Falchuk essentially know they have a big gun with Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once) but cleverly decide to tuck that in the waistband, which leaves, in the first two episodes, the audience expecting Yeoh to bust out her gleaming martial arts skills and kick a ton of ass.
