I’m going to keep this simple. You’re busy. You might be overwhelmed. You may have even forgot about some great series or films I’ve written about — curated for you — and I take zero offense if you did. That’s why you subscribe. That’s what the archive is for.
But you’re standing on the precipice of the weekend. Friday night? Saturday night? All day inside on a Sunday? You just might have some time to watch something, and this is your curated Rewinder/Reminder of three — not five; that’s too much pressure to choose! — great options.
You’re welcome.
A film to make you happy in hard times.
"Perfect Days."
This post is spoiler-free, so you can read it without having seen the movie, though I hope you will watch it soon if you haven’t.
A Limited Series that’s complex, action packed, funny, creative, completely unexpected and built to binge.
In this instance from the column below, I’m specifically talking about “Culprits” on Hulu, but if you stumble on “Paris Has Fallen,” that fits the bill as well. Still, for this installment, I’m pushing “Culprits.”
Deep Dive: Hulu. Vol. 1.
Deep Dive is a spoiler-free feature that explores both hidden, often un-promoted (and thus unknown) gems as well as must-watch quality series in the zeitgeist (or those that should be) on different steaming platforms.
One of my favorite series in years, which is a complete and utter surprise when you watch and is delightful, action packed, subtle, clever and leaves you hoping they make a second season.
"House Of Ninjas."
I went looking for a little light ninja viewing action because, duh, that’s the irresistible name of the Japanese language Netflix series — “House Of Ninjas.”
Don’t think, just watch. Happy viewing, everyone. I hope you get to one (or more) of these. Have a great weekend.
All caught up.
For those in the same boat and in the mood for some good Korean revenge violence, I really enjoyed "Mercy for None" on Netflix.
It is a 7 episode limited series with an astronomically high body count :)
I love this! The NY Times does this (I really don't know why I'm still subscribing, except maybe for the recipes!) but your selections are definitely more in in tune with me. Will this be a regular feature? I vote yes. Anyway, I somehow previously missed noting Culprits (or writing it down on a Post-it:) which sounds great. I loved House of Ninjas and Paris Has Fallen. I just finished Arctic Circle last night which was very good if flawed. It fell off in the 4th season but I still found the characters interesting and wanted to keep watching them even if some plot turns strained credulity throughout the seasons. The main character Nina gave me Anna Tov vibes from Fringe which is a very good thing. I do think I need to watch a gentle drama though for a palate cleanser where people aren't shooting, stabbing or pummeling each other no matter how entertaining it is! Perhaps "Perfect Days" might be a good choice.
