Box Set candidates and worries, a little more on "Disclaimer" and worries, and our stubborn Enormous Thing distracting life, which for good measure I'll just ignore.
SILO WINS! SILO WINS! What fantastic feedback from everyone. I will put up a post for anyone who misses this pinned comment, but Silo S2 is the official next Box Set. Plenty of time to watch S1. Highly recommended. Lots of cool stuff. Lots of entertainment. Excellent world building. Yay.
No spoilers, all I have to say is that as the season was going on, I kept thinking about the journey of River Cartwright. When we first met him in the beginning of season 1, he seemed like a handsome, capable, leading man with heroic tendencies. What wasn't apparent (at least to me) was that, he apparently has the most punchable face on television. It's kind of hard to think of any interaction that River has had of any duration that didn't include with face punching at some point.
Some of my recent favorites (Bad Sisters and Slow Horses) are on Apple TV and now that I don't have to take to bed to watch, I'm up for more.
I wanted to sign up for Apple back when there was so much buzz about Ted Lasso, but Comcast told me I needed new equipment to stream Apple. I don't trust Comcast. I'm still trying to figure out a way to quit them, but my boys are big gamers and they like the internet speed. Anyhoo, I discovered I could get Apple on the bedroom TV without involving Comcast. And then, just last week, I discovered I could get Apple via Amazon Prime, so I'm watching Disclaimer from the comfort of my living room. I'm intrigued enough to see it through, but I wouldn't recommend it. Based on all the love, I will give Silo another try.
Do what I did, up your bandwidth and spend a hundred bucks on Amazon for a DOCS 3.1 cable modem and a bit more to own your own WiFi network. The $16 a month I saved pays for itself to cover the expense of the gear and upping my bandwidth to 1.2 GB PS within a year.
Now I've got better, faster internet, a truly secure WiFi network that isn't sharing bandwith with anyone with a Comcast cel phone and actually saving money doing it. Win Win.
Silo s2 would be an excellent choice. I can’t wait. Ditto for “Severance”. I haven’t watched “Disclaimer” or anything else these days. I have dad in the hospital and my plate is full right now. But as soon as he is out, I should be able to resume my regular viewing habits.
Tim, when I get a recommendation from you that I like, I just add it to THE LIST. I can't start watching everything immediately! When I'm looking for a new show, I go and pluck something from THE LIST (or THE SPREADSHEET, if I can possibly trigger any of the resident artistes). This is the main reason I don't often comment on your new shows.
The 2ET of Disclaimer did not immediately make it onto the list, but it caught my partner's attention while we were loading up Slow Horses, so we may watch it. I'll see what your reaction to the end of the season is.
My only person reservation to Silo S2 is that we have a friends group that collectively watched S1 together and if we also do S2, there's no way I'll be able to keep up with the Box Set 🫤 so I'd selfishly prefer something I'd have no problem watching solo!
Based on all the good response, I'm definitely going to go ahead with Silo S2. But I also totally understand if you've got a friend watching party which is great and wouldn't want to step on that. If it doesn't come together, it'll be here.
I have been wanting to watch Silo and now that I have Apple TV+ again, I could go for that for the Box Set of Season 2 as soon as I catch up with season 1. I am seriously thinking of going back to finish Fringe though to help me get through the next two weeks.
I’m still watching Disclaimer with reservations also. There better be some payoff with that cat!
If the cat doesn’t matter to anything in the story, that’s going to be a problem for me because then why has he/she figured so prominently? Or maybe I’m just feline sensitive! I did end up getting two kittens, a brother and sister and they’re doing great.
As to your advice, too late! I started season 5 of Fringe as I have been feeling very anxious lately and the familiarity of the merry band of resisters is somehow comforting. I’m feeling pretty good about the chances of good triumphing over evil in the end but it’s so very disturbing that’s it so close. And OMG I never thought of a Fringe tattoo! I’ll look into it! There’s only 10 episodes of Silo so maybe I’ll jump into that soon to be able to participate in the Box Set.
Yes, the cat. Must be something there. But I assume it's a subtle thing. I would say finish Silo S1 before Fringe. I mean, look, you've probably got a Fringe tattoo at this point and I would endorse that. You're looking around for observers. You're on it. But a little break for Silo is not a bad option.
Yes, to a Box Set of Silo S2 and/or Bad Sisters! I am caught up on Disclaimer, but am having some issues with it (besides the VO). Without getting into specifics in case others out there want to watch it, some things just seem far fetched to me in the plot. I am almost done with Pachinko S2 - I waited for all of the episodes to drop. - and so far I give it a thumbs up. I look forward to Severance S2 - curious to see where it goes.
Tim, a question: is there any point at all in watching Season 2 of Pachinko or Severance without doing Season 1 first? The only reason I ask is that it’s clear I’m going to be flooded by viewing options whilst being really busy elsewhere, and I fear these two will miss out altogether?
I almost always fall into the "completist" category for most shows, Andres (except there's no need to watch S2 of Friday Night Lights at all). So yes, I do think it's essential to watch S1 of both Pachinko and Severance. The latter goes down quicker. The former I loved and it's a show to savor slowly. I have not started S2.
We've been watching Disclaimer but my husband keeps taking them two at a time and for whatever reason I can really only tolerate one in a night. So I keep mentally bailing on the second episode whenever it hits.
I'm beginning to tolerate none of the episodes. Ha. I had a friend text me that he was so insanely annoyed by Ep. 3 that he stopped watching but then had a lovely tirade, in detail, about what he didn't like. Ha.
Starship Troopers was one of the first DVDs we bought to watch on our newly acquired Sony Vega TV (350 lbs!) back in the late 1990s. LOL. I guess it’s time to watch it on our 4K OLED (and hopefully in a format befitting of the current big-ass TV).
Tim, would love to do Silo S2 as a box set. I’ve been unsubscribed from Apple TV+ for a while but am about to get back on it today to binge Slow Horses S4. May well catch up on the first two seasons of Pachinko and Severance. And my wife and I will guzzle down Bad Sisters S2. So that means I’ll be Apple’ing for a while now. Phew, the volume!
The volume is overwhelming. Glug, glug! Still drowning. And lately I've had all this, well, LIFE SHIT to deal with so I feel like I'm falling even further behind. But that's OK. This whole Substack is about it not being a race.
I did not love Silo and did not plan to see Season 2. I agree with you on all its positives, but it felt like five episodes stretched to ten for me. After what felt like the umpteenth puzzle/hunt, I just thought, “Think how much time would have been saved if Holsten had a quick chat with Juliette before he left?”
That being said, I would play along and watch Season 2 of Silo as a Box Set. Though I would be far more excited about watching Season 2 of Bad Sisters. Or re-watching Season 1 of For All Mankind.
Come play along! I did laugh at the Holsten thing. And yes, that's true of a lot of shows -- just fucking say the thing to the person that will make their life easier. Ah, but drama has its needs, I guess. For the record, there is NOTHING more annoying to me than when a TV show has a scene where someone with information calls someone else needing that information -- perhaps its life saving for one of them -- and then says, forget it, never mind, we'll talk later. My head explodes.
You can only imagine how much this has happened through the years. Spoiler: 789,325 times.
And about that election . . . Every time I stress, I put down my phone and write a Vote Forward letter [or fill in productive but do-able election activity of your choice]. It feels so much better and less crazy-making.
This is great. I have just stopped reading the polling stories. And the most annoying articles of all time are the NYT obsession with idiotic "undecided" voters and catering to their stupid whims. If you're undecided, you're not paying attention or you're just ignorant.
OMG, those freakin' undecided voters. Agreed. I've also theorized a few additional options: 1) people who are absolutely starved for attention and want to be catered to by media; and/or 2) want to vote a stupid way but don't want to admit it.
How many shows are on Apple TV these days? I know there are shows I would like (Ted Lasso, Foundation, Silo) but I'm already signed up for a bunch of streamers and I honestly don't want to think about another service now.
SILO WINS! SILO WINS! What fantastic feedback from everyone. I will put up a post for anyone who misses this pinned comment, but Silo S2 is the official next Box Set. Plenty of time to watch S1. Highly recommended. Lots of cool stuff. Lots of entertainment. Excellent world building. Yay.
So, just finished S4 of Slow Horses...

You're welcome.
I do plan on watching Disclaimer but haven't gotten there yet. Absolutely will watch Silo, Severance and Bad Sisters.
I wouldn't rush on Disclaimer....
🤣
Silo s2 for BS - I vote YES!!!
Are you insinuating that Silo season 2 is bullshit, sir?
Box Set :)
I knew that, was teasing you
😈

Yes, give Silo another try. And I'm with you on Disclaimer...not really in recommendation mode. But I will see it to the end.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Giada. And if I can help save time, I will say this -- just skip Disclaimer. Not worth it.
Tim, when I get a recommendation from you that I like, I just add it to THE LIST. I can't start watching everything immediately! I will pretend I didn't read the "S" word.
I’m not sure I’m THAT committed! But what would you suggest for a design? Actually, I think if I was going to get a tat for any show, it’d be Patriot.
If the cat doesn’t matter to anything in the story, that’s going to be a problem for me because then why has he/she figured so prominently? Or maybe I’m just feline sensitive! I did end up getting two kittens, a brother and sister and they’re doing great.

You should get the tat on your neck. THAT shows real commitment...
Oh, and having read the books, the. cat, thought far from a lead character is pivotal.

I'm hoping I like Severance S2 better than S1. It's just me. I definitely want to watch Pachinko S2 but haven't started.
Tim, a question: is there any point at all in watching Season 2 of Pachinko or Severance without doing Season 1 first? The only reason I ask is that it’s clear I’m going to be flooded by viewing options whilst being really busy elsewhere, and I fear these two will miss out altogether?

You really should watch season 1 of Pachinko, it's fantastic.

Apropos of nothing, Starship Troopers in 4K on The Big Ass Television™ is Magnificent.

My set up is ludicrous — but when I moved to Sacramento, I decided to finally put together a, well, "Truly Cinematic" home theatre.
And I have a great deal of trouble trusting anyone who doesn't see the beauty, depth and staggering importance of Paul Veerhoeven's masterwork...

Oh life
It's bigger
Bigger than you and you are not me
The lengths that I will go to...
Enjoy “Slow Horses”, they managed yet another awesome season!!!
Indeed.

I put in two hours on the phone for a certain former DA today.
Made me feel MUCH better.
Right?! Working a voter protection hotline and it feels so much better.
I'm doing another shift in a couple of days — and I'm also putting my money where my mouth is.
How many shows are on Apple TV these days? I know there are shows I would like (Ted Lasso, Foundation, Silo) but I'm already signed up for a bunch of streamers and I honestly don't want to think about another service now.
I feel you. No worries.
Silo Box Set every day and twice on Sunday. Pretty please.
It's happening.
I heartily agree!
