If I'm not mistaken, this podcast also went all the way through without any Max Headroom moments. Which is great, but also I kinda liked that. Like a DJ. But, cheers to a mostly clean podcast (although being professional and perfect is not the goal nor ever will be).

I thought you should've invited DJ Cool Herc or Africa Bambaata (minus the child abuse) for a change of pace...

Well that was terrific! I listened while washing the dishes, something you can’t do while reading on Substack. I forgot to tell you I have gotten into the Pernice Brothers since you did that post and now the Spotify algorithm started suggesting them in my playlists. Mission accomplished! I have listened to some of the new Camera Obscura but I need to listen to the whole album. I guess I am a Swiftie, too but just the music. The celebrity stuff doesn’t matter to me. Well, fine, maybe I have been listening to a bit of the 1975 after hearing her new album. I will check out Sun June!

My first name is Elizabeth so you can use female pronouns with me. My name has just too many letters to type out when I don't have any patience for a signup process.

Thank you, Elizabeth. I also like that it's lowercase. Getting an e.e. cummings vibe from it.

Now back to your regularly scheduled day drinking!

It's Portland. Day drinking is just part of the experience (as I've noticed more and more, which brings me great laughter and also joy in that this is clearly my kinda people, living in and for the moment).

The story of my handle, Zig2k143, goes way back! Back in the late 70s and early 80s, I cruised the CB radio waves as Ziggy Stardust, a nod to the legendary David Bowie.

In 1986, I entered the exciting world of BBS (bulletin board systems) and adopted the handle ZiggieStarr. But ZiggieStarr eventually got an upgrade. I added 143, which holds a special meaning – a message of love inspired by a lighthouse in Boston.

Then came 1999, the year of Y2K hysteria. You know, the whole world-ending-on-January-1st-2000 thing? (Thankfully, that never happened!) To mark the occasion, I tacked on the "2k" to my handle – Zig2k143 was born.

Here we are, 25 years later, and I'm still rocking the same handle and email address. It's a testament to the things that stick with you – a love for Bowie, a touch of lighthouse romance, and a little Y2K flair. I know this is a longer story than you might have bargained for, but hey, that's the history of Zig2k143 for ya!

Love it! Is the 143 lighthouse thing a well-known Boston phenomenon? I ask because I saw a girl in Portland the other day with a “143” tattoo on her forearm. Didn’t ask about it.

I've had some fantastic wines from the Finger Lakes! But it was years ago so I don't really remember what they were — but pretty sure there was a Cab Franc or two in there...
