Hey Tim. Ah moving it’s a bear. One of the big life changes. I still will say a high quality iPad paired with excellent headphones isn’t a bad setup while you create the perfect TV room.
I stuck with The Last of Us despite my trepidations and I am glad I did. Hopefully we can discuss E3 once you’re at least a little bit settled in.
Read your post over coffee this morning --a delightful start to my day. All in good time --your vibey comfy TV space will come together. I trust you found the corkscrew.
Happy housewarming. I love Pepper’s adaptability. I can’t help but envy how awesome basketball games must look on your first-rate TV when it’s all set up.
I feel - and remember - your pain. I went through that six years ago when I retired and fled Hollywood for the last time to stay home for good. As Suzanne says, moving is such a royal pain in the ass ... it was weeks before I was able to winnow down the mountain of boxes in my living room to the point where I could see out the windows again. In some ways it's only now that I feel fully settled, having gradually ticked items off the humongous "TBD" list. The little things, I could do -- what's left are big things like a new roof, which will require throwing gobs of money at a professional.
Hey, at least those stairs will keep you in shape without squandering money on a gym membership. My sainted mother, Dog rest her soul, remained physically nimble deep into her 90s thanks to a very steep 12-step staircase that she had to go up and down at least a dozen times every day. If nothing else, those stairs might make you think twice before moving again...
Good to hear from you! I was thinking just yesterday it's been a while but I figured you were doing just what you're doing. Moving is such a pain in the ass. Whenever I've done it (way too often in the last ten years) I've fantasized about how very rich people must accomplish this onerous task. There must be exclusive companies that specialize in carefully packing up precious possessions and then unpacking them in the new place and organizing everything so the new residents can glide in and start living the good life without straining a back or having to hunt for a corkscrew. Well, a girl can dream can't she?
I can't wait until you catch up with The Last of Us; the rapturous reviews of episode 3 (I would be surprised if you haven't read/heard anything about it) are so well deserved, the writing and the acting are transcendent.
Hi Tim--long-time listener ("Boring and pedantic!"), recent subscriber to your Substack. I'm reading your missives in fits and starts. Question: are you still living in Portland or are you back to the Bay Area?

Congratulations on finding a landing spot!
Hell yeah Tim! We all "could watch plenty of things" but this way, too, is quite powerful.
Now I gotta watch me "The Thick of It"!!!
