This post feels like a cool breeze of sanity blowing through the curtains of the overwhelming house of too many streaming choices. Yes, yes, and yes! We watch on OUR timeline.
Maybe ... until The Cosmic Cat bats you off that flat circle into the abyss of eternity. Being closer to that than you are -- given the actuarial realities of age -- I tend to think about it a bit more ... which is a good reason to crank up my viewing of quality TV, I guess.
And speaking of -- I finally finished "The Gentlemen," taking my sweet time as I do, not being a "binger." It's good -- lively and fun with lots of twists and turns. A good ride.
Meanwhile, have a great Christmas on the flat circle, and I'll see you -- virtually, of course -- on the other side...
I’ve always loved that idea of the “curation approach”. Probably not everybody is able to do that or should do that, but experienced and knowledgeable TV critics should. Now more than ever, especially if we don’t want well-crafted TV to become irrelevant 20 minutes after a show ended its run. I’ll keep “Sherwood” in mind in case it becomes available here. I checked and it’s not at present.
I'm so glad you watched it! My husband and I watched it and want to dive into S2, but I'm wondering if we should re-watch S1 to catch up on everything. If folks want to do some Britbox binging during a free trial - and are British Crime drama geeks like me - there is: Karen Pirie, The Bay, Grace, The Tower, and the new season of Shetland is out. They're not the same quality as Sherwood, but still good entertainment value to forget all the fun stuff in the news. Also, I'm writing this on pain meds after hip surgery so forgive the mess haha.
Thanks for the other recs Marybeth, I just finished Sherwood and will now try some of those (I’ve loved Shetland for years and love it even more now with the two female leads), but haven’t seen these others. Hope your recovery from surgery goes well!
We subscribed last year during one of the Prime discount offers. Maybe we were just really efficient and didn't see much more (though we didn't get to this one) to sign up again this year. Will keep monitoring it though - agree with Tim that there's a lot of value there.
We also loved the first season but haven't yet watched the second. I've heard some mixed reviews of it, and the plot certainly sounds a bit more conventional. But we'll see. May tackle it after finishing this season of Vera, the Chelsea Detective Xmas episode, etc., etc. The only good thing about episodes of Shetland coming out once a week is that it leaves space for other shows.
Tim is not wrong, Sherwood was a delightful find, just finished!
I got BritBox a month ago because it was on sale. I am finishing up a series now but then I will definitely give Sherwood a whirl!

New slogan but one that people might not believe: “Tim Goodman. A cool breeze of sanity.”
And thank you!
I've been inspired to create a "Watchlist" label in my gmail account. This might be the start of an actual watchlist.
Endorsed.
Sherwood season 1 available on Hoopla through your local library.
That’s great to know! Thanks for passing on
Yeah, a lot of Britbox stuff winds up on Hoopla after a year or two!
This is the first I've heard of Hoopla ... is it like Canopy?
Found it, and signed up -- thanks!
Great to know for folks. That’s free!
A quick Google turned found Hoopla, and it took about 45 seconds to sign up. Excellent!
Time? What even is it?
According to Dark, time is God 😉
A flat circle?

Alright alright alright

So true about the shelf life and how to protect art/shows

Mmmmm pain meds. But seriously I hope you are feeling better!
Also, most of these shows are only 3-6 eps per season, so easy to blow through.
Thanks Tim. Posts like this are why I'm here. Guess I need to sample BritBox soon....
Thanks! Always happy to help.

Ditto!
Ditto the thanks!

Ah yes new Shetland episodes. Such dangerous islands! I’ll bet the tourists board is well paid. 😄
